Robin Zeng, fundador da maior fabricante de baterias para veículos elétricos do mundo, afirmou que a aposta de Elon Musk nas células cilíndricas 4680 da Tesla “vai falhar e nunca terá sucesso”.
Zeng, que é presidente da Contemporary Amperex Technology (CATL) da China, relatou à Reuters que durante uma visita de Musk à China em abril, os dois tiveram uma intensa discussão sobre o assunto, na qual Zeng demonstrou seu ponto de vista, deixando Musk em silêncio.
“Ele não sabe como fazer uma bateria”, disse Zeng. As células 4680 “tabless” da Tesla, utilizadas em alguns de seus modelos, como o Cybertruck, prometem uma capacidade de energia até cinco vezes superior.

No entanto, um recente relatório do The Information revelou que Musk estabeleceu um prazo até o final deste ano para a equipe de baterias resolver questões relacionadas a custos e outros desafios técnicos.

Enquanto isso, as baterias da CATL estão presentes em uma ampla gama de veículos.
Entre eles, há modelos da Tesla na China e carros da Ford na América do Norte, como o Mustang Mach-E e o F-150 Lightning.
A CATL é especializada em baterias de fosfato de ferro-lítio (LFP), que, embora não ofereçam o mesmo alcance das células cilíndricas da Tesla, são utilizadas em muitos veículos elétricos.
Embora Zeng não tenha ficado impressionado com o conhecimento de Musk sobre baterias, ele reconhece as habilidades do CEO da Tesla em áreas como chips, software, hardware e “tecnologia mecânica”.
